Well, it’s Goodbye to the FK-8 Civic Type-R.
The Civic Type-R has been around for 10 years in this form and this is the grand finale edition, a collector’s dream, the exclusive Honda Civic Type-R Limited Edition.

This was a worldwide limited edition of 1020 cars, with a race-orientated format in lightweight materials, interior, and race-spec lightweight wheels, this was the ultimate Civic that Honda had made. And at an increased price of £39,999 when new, it had to be special.

Finished in an exclusive to the civic colour of Sunlight Yellow with a gloss-finished black roof to give it that carbon look. The colour was originally used on the first civic Type-R.
All the normal Type-R GT spec is carried over, including the 320 bhp engine now an aim to create weight saving was introduced with most of the sound deadening removed, together with the info screen and climate control, this made a slight breath of difference to the 0-60 time of 5.7sec but overall, it gave a weight saving of 47kg.

A great feature for the collector is a numbered plaque. Every car throughout the world has one. If it’s a Euro car, it’ll state EURO 000 before the number, USA 000, CAN000, JAP 000, UK 000 and so on… So that’s a good way to know what is where and to keep an eye on them.
Below is the tag that came with all the European cars, 100 were launched. All had the EURO tag before the number.

Australia had the same allocation of cars as the UK of just 20 cars with only 19 being sold to the public by way of a lottery, you were then chosen randomly from a few hundred other applicants. Honda Australia held one car for their own collection. All the Australian cars had air conditioning as standard.

Japan had a limited run of 200 cars with a mix of LHD and RHD cars from Japan. I personally think a split of 100 of each is possible. A few of the RHD Japan cars are already around the world, JAP130 is currently in Russia! Searching for a Japanese car in RHD is quite easy to find.

The USA got 600 of the worldwide allocation. The colour of the car in the States is known as Phoenix Yellow. A few more options were added to the US car, including cruise control and Air conditioning/Climate.
The CAN 000 cars for Canada were limited to 100, it’s a possibility one extra was officially imported.
There are 240 cars in RHD format, leaving 780 in LHD.

All the UK allocations were sold before the cars were dropped at any UK showroom. Nearly all of the cars have come up for sale at some time in the last few years, I’ve recorded 11 so far. A few went straight up for sale by flippers, and then a few more realised ‘I could earn a few grand from selling now’ – well the values have now settled, so you’re either in for the long haul or maybe have to accept a slight hit.

There is at least one LHD registered in the UK. The numbers do not come as the cars are built, they were issued randomly as with most limited editions

From the UK cars, all are numbered 1-20 with a ‘ UK’ before the number. The No. 1 former press car, was sold by Norton, Chiswick Honda in May 2024 so that is out and about. No3 now lives in Hong Kong. No 14 is now in Thailand.

There is talk that 21 cars came to the UK, I think we can confidently say that 20 were ordered and sold here. Whether another one is owned by Honda UK could be a possibility.
Please get in touch if you own one and get it added to the register, especially an RHD car.
More will follow on this edition soon…
