HONDA NSX ‘ FINAL 12 EDITION ‘

The NSX ended in production in 2005 with the elusive “final edition” being in 2004. Although it wasn’t the last edition you could buy it was special in the fact that the colours and combinations were unique and the first time they’d been offered in the UK.

The Final Twelve cars were presented to the new owners at a special meeting at BAR Racing in Northamptonshire on November 15th, 2005, together with F1 champ Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson, the then BAR F1 test driver …

Much has been said about what colours and how many were actually sold. Well, 12 were made and sold but these weren’t the last NSX sold in the UK. The last registered NSX was a red one, registered in 2006 (from the 2005 stock). During the whole final era from 2002 to 2006 only 86 cars were sold in the UK, so these are rare anyway. The final 12 were basically an open book to have the cars in a format of colour combinations that weren’t available before then. However, these were all chosen by Honda UK as this original and rare sheet I received in 2005 from the main-dealer Honda Chiswick shows.

There is a superb file of pictures and history on that car here This is when the UK’s No1 Honda NSX specialist Plans Performance had the car.

The red with black leather edition. Whether this is Monza Red is not confirmed. Either way, quite a standard, classic spec.

  1. I bought the black one with red interior which has been deleted from the list. I think I was the first to reserve one – which I bought from Ivan Ferris at Honda Chiswick. I had to wait until they would let me have the list. After a while of looking I tried to order a black one with tan. But they wouldn’t let me buy it – or for a while tell me why. Then they revealed that production was stopping but that 12 would be available. I had the pick of the litter. So chose black with red. Went to the day at Honda racing to collect it with the other buyers. They sent us pictures which I still have.

  2. I bought the black one with red which has been deleted from the list. I wanted to buy a black one with tan but the dealer – Ivan Ferris of Honda Chiswick – wouldn’t let me buy anything. And wouldn’t tell me why – till later. That production was ceasing and only 12 more would be made for the UK market. Finally I received the list and had the pick of the litter. I chose the black with red as nearest to the colour I had wanted. Asked if they would make a special black with tan one for me but they wouldn’t – I expect they had already made the cars. Went to the day at Honda racing when the cars were handed over. They sent us photos which I still have. A really nice experience – for a terrific and at the time underappreciated car.

    1. Hi Stephen, thank you for the insight, much appreciated.
I’m not sure if one had been changed to black/tan from the original list?
      I could be wrong…
I have to agree with them being an underappreciated car, in maybe 10/15 years when the price tags are c£250k you can say ‘I told you’!
Many thanks for getting in touch,
      Mike

      1. Dear Mike

Thanks. No I don’t think one had been changed to black/tan because I would have seen it on the day – but I didn’t.

Think prices are rising already. I sold mine in early 2008 (stupidly) at about 4,000 miles because I didn’t want to change gear anymore (tsk). Sold it back to Ivan Ferris at Honda Chiswick who had a buyer.

Think the Honda is an excellent model for your site – which I like btw. Very interesting. I bought the car in the first instance because it passed my test of being (1) an excellent car and (2) underappreciated and consequent poor sales and rarity.

        Stephen
